Програма «Велике читання»

Відділ преси, освіти та культури Посольства США в Україні ініціює програму «Велике читання» для заохочення читання в суспільстві, залучення молоді та всіх груп населення до читання кращих творів світової літератури. Мета проведення програми «Велике читання» - наголошення важливості читання, об’єднання громади шляхом обговорення питань, що піднімаються в книзі, спільних цінностей…

Для організації програми у Вінниці запропоновано книгу Рея Бредбері «451° за Фаренгейтом». Посольство США надало центру «Вікно в Америку» обласної універсальної наукової бібліотек и ім. К.А. Тімірязєва примірники цієї книги англійською та українською мовами для тих, хто хоче взяти активну участь у програмі «Велике читання». Книгу можна взяти у тимчасове використання для прочитання. Ви також можете взяти участь у конкурсі на кращу постановку.

Програма «Велике читання»

як комплексний захід, включає:

• Знайомство з творчістю американського письменника Рея Бредбері у різному форматі

• Обговорення книги Рея Бредбері «451° за Фаренгейтом» з різними групами читачів – студентами, школярами, тощо

• Поглиблене вивчення творчості Рея Бредбері та його книги «451° за Фаренгейтом» з вчителями та викладачами літератури й англійської мови, підготовка відповідних матеріалів, списків ресурсів, методичних матеріалів тощо

• Відкриття сторінки на веб-сайтах центру «Вікно в Америку», присвяченої програмі «Велике читання» та творчості Рея Бредбері

• Перегляд і обговорення кінофільму за цим твором у центрі «Вікно в Америку»

• Організація книжкових виставок

• Організація конкурсу на краще творче представлення ідеї чи уривку з книги у будь-якому форматі – малюнку, пісні, відтворенні на сцені уривку з книги, танці, костюмі, відео, мультиплікації тощо. 

• Підготовка відео сюжету з відгуками читачів про книгу Рея Бредбері

• Голосне читання уривку з книги відомою людиною на телебаченні, радіо, в бібліотеці

• Розробка логотипу програми, плакату, гасла

Деякі факти про програми на підтримку читання у США 

Аналогічні програми проходять в США під назвами «Велике читання», «Одне місто – одна книга» та ін. Їх ініціюють і проводять громадські організації, бібліотеки, навчальні заклади, активну участь беруть урядові структури, зокрема мери міст. Десять років пройшло з того часу, коли 2001 р. Чиказька публічна бібліотека започаткувала програму «Одна книга, одне Чикаго» з книги «Убити пересмішника» Лі Харпер. 2011 р. була обрана книга Neil Gaiman “Neverwhere”. Перед тим, як оголосити книгу для загальноміського читання, співробітники Чикагської публічної бібліотеки разом із запрошеними одним чи двома освітянами читають, сперечаються та аргументують декілька пропозицій. Утаємничені дискусії продовжуються доти, поки не приходять до спільного рішення. Коли книга обрана, організовують візити автора, ухвалюють розклад обговорень книги, запрошують до участі у програмі мера міста. У заклеєному конверті йому надсилається книга, що її обрано для обговорення, щоби мер оголосив в узгоджений час назву обраної книги. Мер Чикаго Ричард Дейлі, який обіймає цю посаду з 1989 р., зауважив, що коли вперше почув про цю програму, подумав, що це - чудова ідея. Все місто перетворюється на такий собі «клуб читачів» ( Джерело: Chicago Tribune )

«Створюємо націю читачів» - гасло програми «Велике читання», яку вже протягом багатьох років організує Національна мистецька фундація в США. На веб-сайті цієї програми (http://www.neabigread.org/) можна знайти цікаві ідеї, методичні розробки, відео тощо, присвячені обраній на цей рік книзі. Такі матеріали допомагають організовувати програми читання в окремих громадах.

What do you think about cultures in Ukraine and the U.S.?

Topic: Culture and Cultural Differences

Fun Fact: "In 21 U.S. states, Walmart is the single largest employer" (www.funfunnyfacts.com).

They are so different 'cause of various nations but both of them have glasses through which they perceive this world. How can cultural background affect relationships? Do people from different cultures always get along? Can these interactions be interesting or exciting? It was a topic of discussion at Vinnytsia English Club with PC Volunteer Mila as a leader (March, 1 2012). Can you think of interesting examples of cultural differences or culture shock? Discuss this topic with us. 

Culture: the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively; cumulative deposits of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, and customs; shared consciousness.

1. What defines a culture? For example: music, language, history, and traditions all play a part. What else contributes to the formation and perpetuation of culture? Many things vary across cultures. As a popular phrase says, when in Rome "do as the Romans do". How do different cultures affect our lives on a daily basis? How should we act when around those of their cultures or in different countries?

2. Can you describe some general cultural attributes here in Ukraine? What do you think about culture in the U.S.? Are they monocultures or multi-cultural societies? What cultural aspects has Ukraine adopted from other places? What do you think other cultures have adopted from Ukraine?

3. How can cultural background affect friendships and relationships?  Do people from different cultures always get along? Can these interactions be interesting or exciting?

4. Cultural differences can lead to interesting discussions, disagreements, or even problems. Do you think it is better for people to generally stay in their home countries rather than migrate to other ones? Can you ever successfully integrate into another culture or spread your cultural values in different country?

5. What is culture shock? Have you ever experienced culture shock or reverse culture shock? Have you ever been surprised or confused by the actions of someone from another culture?

6. Can you think of interesting examples of cultural differences or culture shock? Ideas: politeness, directness in speech or actions, physical customs such as body art or piercings, gestures like hand shaking or eye contact, manners at meals or in conversations, etc.
