Makerspace VinLab - 2016

Yay! We are opening Makerspace VinLab at Vinnytsia Window on America Center, Vinnytsia Regional Universal Research Library named after K.A. Timiriazev. Our first steps. Enjoy watching.

In 2015 Vinnytsia Regional Universal Research Library named after K. A. Timiriazev created “Makerspace VinLab” (Творча Лабораторія) thanks to the financial assistance of the Embassy of America in Kyiv. The moderator of all activities and trainings organized at Window on America Center is Oleksandr M.
3 workshops were held to teach a community of our city how to use 3D printer and 3D scanner. Special programs are used while modelling on 3D printer.
The gifted youth of our city from various schools participated in the third training organized on February 5, 2016. 40 students were engaged into learning to know more about 3D modelling. Questions about peculiarities of threads, extruders, technology, criteria of choosing 3D models were generated in small groups of students while having “World Café” discussions. It was a chance for them to learn about new technologies and English at the same time. ‪#‎УкраїнаSpeaking‬

English Movie Night

This movie is not only for those who like travelling and enjoy the moment when his or her flight is rerouted to a distant city but also
who seem to live in a world governed by a different set of rules.
When: February 20, 2016 at 4.00 pm.
Where: Window on America Center, Vinnytsia RUR Library named after K.A. Timiriazev.
Easily excitable Neal Page (Steve Martin) is somewhat of a control freak. Trying to get home to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with his wife (Laila Robbins) and kids, his flight is rerouted to a distant city in Kansas because of a freak snowstorm, and his sanity begins to fray. Worse yet, he is forced to bunk up with talkative Del Griffith (John Candy), whom he finds extremely annoying. Together they must overcome the insanity of holiday travel to reach their intended destination.
"Planes, Trains and Automobiles" is a 1987 American comedy film written, produced and directed by John Hughes. The film stars Steve Martin as Neal Page, a high-strung marketing executive, who meets Del Griffith, played by John Candy, an eternally optimistic, outgoing, overly talkative, and clumsy shower curtain ring salesman who seems to live in a world governed by a different set of rules.

A Discussion on "Emotions" with Olha S.

Rational thinking and decision-making does not leave much room for emotions. Faced with worry, frustration, despair, sadness, or shame, we lose access to our own memory, reasoning, and the capacity to make connections.
What is an emotion? How to reinforce positive emotional habits? Why do emotions change during a day? Do emotions affect your memory and performance?
You are invited to discuss these and other points about emotions, their nature, emotional maturity and emotional intelligence.
When: February 20, 2016 at 10.30 am.
Where: Window on America Center, Vinnytsia RUR named after K.A. Timiriazev.
Moderator: Olha S.

"Man, what is any supremacy, and a race war which was waged at the beginning of time? Can we reconcile and see each other as human beings? If we continue doing this race, we'll never go anywhere".
You are invited for a discussion dedicated to 'Black History Month'
in America, an annual observance for remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. It is celebrated annually in the United States and Canada in February.
It's time to put this tragedy to rest and turn the page to a new and happier chapter of our lives.

Learn English and Enjoy Reading

Mark this date in your calendar if you want to know more about innovations in learning English.
When: February 11, 2016 at 5.30 pm.
Where: Window on America Center, Vinnytsia RUR Library named after K.A. Timiriazev.
Moderator: Alex Erwick.
The talk is supposed to be around the followig quotations from 'The Little Prince' by Antine de Saint-Exupéry:
1. All grown-ups were once children--although few of them remember it.
2.Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.
3.The grown-ups discouraged me in my painter's career when I was six years old, and I never learned to draw anything, except boas from the outside and boas from the inside.
4.Children should always show great forbearance toward grown-up people.
5.The grown-ups are certainly very odd.
6.Only the children know what they are looking for.
7.Look up at the sky. Ask yourselves: is it yes or no? Has the sheep eaten the flower? And you will see how everything changes . . .And no grown-up will ever understand that this is a matter of so much importance!
