Discussion Topic: The Peace Corps Volunteering
This past week, the man who started the Peace Corps, Sargent Shriver died. His wife also was active in volunteer work, and was the founder of the Special Olympics.
1. Have you met any of the Peace Corps volunteers in Ukraine? What is it like to communicate with them?
2. What do you think are the goals of the Peace Corps? Why are there so many Americans coming to Ukraine as volunteers?
3. What do you think would be unusual or interesting about life in Ukraine for an American volunteer?
4. Imagine that there was a Peace Corps for Ukrainian people. What country would you like to volunteer in?  What kind of volunteer work would you like to do?
5. What do you think would be the biggest challenges about living in a foreign country for two years? Would you like to try something like that?

In 2006, the Peace Corps celebrated 45 years of service promoting peace and friendship throughout the world. Since 1961, the Peace Corps has shared with the world America's most precious resource—its people. Peace Corps Volunteers currently serve in 75 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East. Collaborating with local community members, Volunteers work in areas like education, youth outreach and community development, the environment, and information technology.
