Volunteerism

This day members of English Speaking Club had an opportunity to discuss a topic "International Volunteer Day!" that had been celebrated on December, 5 all over the world. The leader of today's Club, PC Volunteer in Ukraine, and participants have discussed some questions about Volunteerism in general. Some PC Volunteers in our city participated in this discussion telling more about their future plans.
Topic: Volunteerism
Fun Fact of the Day: The Peace Corps was founded in what year? 1961. By the initiatives of which President? John F. Kennedy (http://www.peacecorps.gov).
05 December was International Volunteer Day!
Topic:
1. What is volunteerism? Do you think that volunteer work is important? How do volunteers help people's lives on a daily basis? What kinds of organizations do volunteers usually work for? Who do volunteers help?
2. What are some examples of volunteer projects that you know? Why do you think people volunteer? Have you ever or would you like to work as a volunteer?
3. Many people give money to charities and consider this as “volunteer work”. Do you agree? Define a charity. Is donating to the group the same as spending countless hours volunteering, in person? Do you or would you support a charity, either by donating money or your time?
4. Is volunteer work more fulfilling emotionally than other types of work? Do you find volunteer work more “meaningful” because it usually is not paid? Does this lack of payment deter people from working as volunteers?
5. Other than personal satisfaction, what benefits do you receive by volunteering? Is serving as a volunteer always pleasant or are there negatives (besides pay) as well?
6.  Peace Corps is an organization made up of thousands of volunteers! Before coming to this English Club, had you heard of Peace Corps? What did you think when you first heard about Peace Corps Volunteers? Have you impressions changed?
Schedule:
Saturday 10 December at 10:30,
